A NEW WAY WITH THE BIRD.(Food)

Build a better turkey cooker, and fried-turkey lovers everywhere will beat a path to your door. Or so the people at Butterball and Masterbuilt hope.

Masterbuilt, a company based in Columbus, Ga., that's better known for manufacturing in-house smokers available through retailers such as Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops, is now producing what they're touting as the first indoor turkey fryer. And Butterball, that venerable producer of self-basting turkeys, has added its name to the product.

The Butterball Electric Turkey Fryer looks much like an oversize bread machine. Simply heat two gallons of oil in the unit, add turkey and close the lid. About 40 minutes later, you've got a golden-brown bird. OK, it's not really that easy. But compared with heating 25 gallons of peanut oil to the smoking point in 40degrees -weather over an open flame while watching grease splatter your driveway, it's an improvement.
