Fed: CASA pushes ahead with plan to sample check grounded planes
Australia's aviation regulator says it will continue with plans to sample check each
Ansett 767 aircraft, despite discovering a major problem with one of the planes.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority grounded Ansett's 10 Boeing 767s shortly before
Easter over concerns about the safety of the aircraft.
CASA checked the first aircraft completely, and says it plans to sample-check the rest.
CASA found a crucial landing gear component was two and a half months overdue for change
during a sample-check of the second plane, which was one of the newer additions to the
fleet.
But CASA spokesman PETER GIBSON says there are no plans to fully inspect the remaining aircraft.
He says they will do whatever necessary with each aircraft to satisfy their airworthiness
is correct, and that they are safe for the Australian public to fly in.
